In May, Michael Charlton, Data and Process Analyst at Callisto, will be running 100km (62.2 miles) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of his dad who sadly passed away in October 2021.
Michael will be running the ‘Race to the Castle’ route, taking him from Kirkhale in South Northumberland up to Bamburgh Castle. Taking in 2,280ft of vertical elevation along the way, Michael will be traversing 100km of the North-East of England’s undulating land and scenery.
This test of human endurance is the equivalent of over two marathons and in preparation for this behemoth of a challenge, Michael has been running between 10 and 15 hours a week, on top of his stretching and strength training. Michael noted how challenging this can be, although being able to eat plenty to ensure he stays on top of his calories can be a good thing.
Michael commented: “In October 2021, I lost my dad to cancer – he was an amazing man with a big heart and a loving nature. Watching the immense support that Macmillan gave to both him and my mum over his last years, in particular his last days, I have chosen to raise money in his name for them. I am just hoping that this allows me to raise a good sum of money for Macmillan as they genuinely made my dad peaceful in his last days. Please give what you can – anything big or small will be appreciated!”
